“The Basis Panel revealed a whole new set of data to inform our current and future decisions more data means less guessing.”
What we noticed
Rebecca and her partner were already careful with their power only two of them in the house, heating mostly from the fire so Basis didn’t surface anything alarming. But in the first few days they had fun going around turning appliances on and off to see what each one drew, and the live data caught one quiet habit they’d missed: their hot water cylinder was heating twice overnight, at 11pm and again around 4am, when a single cycle was all the household needed.
What changed
They set a routine so the cylinder runs just one heating cycle, starting at 4am instead of 11pm. Rebecca calculated the change will save them around $70 a year small, but as she put it, “every little” bit counts. For the most part, the panel has quietly become part of their lives. What still impresses Rebecca is the responsiveness: “Turning something off and seeing it in the app two seconds later is really impressive.”
~$70/yr saved by stopping a hot water cylinder from heating twice overnight.
