Order. Install. Live with Basis.
A step-by-step walkthrough of getting Basis: what to expect from day one, week one, and the months ahead.
Quote and book
Get quote
Request a quote through Basis (the form lets you add details so your electrician can tailor it to your home), or find your own Basis Certified Electrician directly.
Already have an electrician you trust? They can become Basis Certified easily: a few hours of free training, online or in person.
We talk it through
We'll pass your details to a Basis Certified Electrician. If anything needs clarifying, we'll call you first. From there you deal with your electrician directly, with Basis supporting wherever needed.
Smart panels are new. Whoever scopes, prices and installs yours should know them inside out, which is why every Basis install is done by a Certified electrician.

Scope and quote
Most electricians arrange a site visit to size up the install in person, often alongside any other electrical work you need, then send your quote in writing. You'll discuss the circuits and configuration approach with your electrician now, to ensure the best outcomes once livened.
Book your install
Once you're happy with the quote, lock in a date with your electrician. (If you're using your own trusted electrician, we'll make sure they're Basis Certified ahead of your install.)
Install
Site preparation
For a replacement, power goes off and your current switchboard comes off the wall. For a new build, the wall is prepped fresh. Either way, any modifications happen in the same visit: cable extensions, wall framing, whatever the new install needs.
Site prep is the biggest source of timing variability, typically 1–4 hours for replacements.

Install Basis Board
The Basis Board goes into the wall and all cables are terminated. Your electrician configures each circuit in the Basis Trade App and connects the board to your home network, hardwired to ethernet where possible, or wifi.
Typically 1–2 hours from mount to circuits configured.
Inspection and livening (if you're having a Basis Meter installed)
If you're having a Basis Meter installed, an Electrical Inspector (organised by your electrician and Basis) arrives to install it, sign off, and liven your home.
Livened and protected
The moment your Basis Board is livened it's measuring, monitoring and protecting your home. The state of every circuit, every safety configuration, and your home's wiring is known immediately. Faults that can quietly develop in existing homes, or during a new build, are surfaced before your electrician leaves.

Tidy up
Your electrician installs the covers, tidies up and confirms everything is set. They'll walk you through the basics: what's where, how to read the e-ink display, what to do if anything looks off. Power's already back on, so the day ends calmly, not with a rush out the door.
Typically 30 minutes from final commission to handover.
Live with Basis
Day 1
Your Board's already running and online. Open the Basis Home App, tag each circuit, and build your first routines. This is where it becomes yours to drive.

Week 1
Switch things on and off, watch your costs change, set up automations. By Friday you're seeing your home's real energy profile in detail for the first time: every circuit revealed, 10,000 readings a second on each one.
Basis Concierge
Around day 7, your Basis Concierge calls. A proactive, personalised check-in, paired with a welcome and setup email. We make sure you're set up right and seeing those first value signals: app downloaded, account created, logged in, circuits tagged, and a clear understanding of what you're looking at.

Month 1
Thirty days of real load is enough to compare every retail plan available in your area and surface the best option for you. Switch, or stay put and keep the load-shifting savings.
Tariff check runs weekly, every market change re-priced against your home.
Basis Concierge
At day 40, your Concierge calls again, with your 40-day data report. With a month-plus of your consumption profile, we bring you personalised insights, recommendations, and actions worth taking now.
Month 6
When you're ready to look at solar, a battery, or an EV charger, your electrician can run the ROI against your personalised usage to size exactly what you need, so you never overpay for generation.

Ongoing
We've got your back at every turn. Any electrical faults or protection events are surfaced in the app as a named alert with a recommended next step, so you hear about a risk before it becomes a problem. Firmware updates ship over the air, keeping every Basis Board at peak performance, automatically, at no cost.
