Protection, circuit by circuit.
How each protection function in the Basis Board works, what it covers and how your electrician sets it up.

Configurable protection
Every circuit's protection is set in software, so changing it doesn't mean changing parts.
Each circuit module has the hardware to work as a circuit breaker (MCB), a residual current device (RCD) and an arc fault detector. Your electrician chooses which functions each circuit uses, and its rating, in the Trade App at commissioning.
If a circuit's job changes later, like adding an EV charger, the protection changes in the app. No breakers to swap.

Shock protection
Every circuit has its own RCD, so one fault doesn't cut power to the rest of the house.
Each circuit senses earth leakage and disconnects in milliseconds. Type B sensing catches the DC faults that solar inverters and EV chargers can create, which Type A devices can't detect. It's available on any circuit through software.
High-risk areas can be set to 10 mA, the threshold used in hospitals and schools.

Temperature monitoring
Sensors in every module watch for overheating terminals, a silent cause of switchboard fires.
If a connection starts to overheat, the module opens the circuit through its control hardware and logs the event, so your electrician can find the cause.
The modules sit in fire-rated housing with fire-resistant foam, and the main switch adds overcurrent protection as a second layer.

Surge protection
A whole-home surge protector that tells you when it has done its job.
The cartridge absorbs voltage spikes from grid events and nearby lightning before they reach your appliances.
When it has absorbed a large surge and needs replacing, the Home App tells you. Unlike the surge protection inside a power strip, the cartridge can be replaced.

Self-test & diagnostics
Every circuit module checks its own protection, all the time.
A traditional RCD should be tested by pressing its test button every six months. Most never are.
Basis modules run self-diagnostic checks continuously and flag hardware issues, assembly defects or wear, in the Home App and to your electrician. Over-the-air updates keep improving the checks.
