Speccing a Basis Board into our renovation gave us the best electrical safety available, and set us up for future investment in solar and battery. And we no longer have that $10,000 insurance excess from the old wiring.

What we noticed

When we bought our home, we had no idea what state the wiring was in, or whether it could handle today's appliances. The house dated to the 1940s, with only minimal work done since the 1960s. The wiring was so unknown that we couldn't get insurance without a $10,000 excess applied.

What changed

Specifying a Basis Board alongside a complete re-wire, James planned exactly how the circuits were organised and what level of insight and control would help optimise consumption, while building in capacity for future solar and battery. He's now mapping the home's energy profile across the seasons so a future double-glazing and solar investment can be right-sized to his actual usage, not guesswork. A switch to a time-of-use plan, with Basis routines, now pushes hot water, space heating and towel rails to off-peak pricing.

Outcome

$10,000 insurance excess removed, with a future-proofed setup for solar and battery.
