“It’s given us a lot more insight and control over how the house uses power and real peace of mind. Even from another country, we can see what’s running and switch it off.”
What we noticed
Paul and his family live overseas and use the Wanaka house as a holiday home, so it often sits empty between visits. After connecting Basis, the data made something clear: the hot water was being heated by an electric element on demand, and it was surprisingly expensive to run it that way.
What changed
Based on the data from the Basis Home App, Paul switched the hot water over to the heat pump and timed it to run during peak solar generation, rather than heating on demand off the electrical circuit. He now puts his own solar to work rather than the electrical circuit heating on demand Remote control also means he switches the heating and other circuits on a few days before the family arrives, then off again the moment they leave all from across the Tasman. It’s a holiday home he can manage with confidence, from another country.
Hot water shifted from costly on-demand electric heating to the heat pump, powered by peak solar.
